Black Label Edition

We tasted four Mount Gay 2000 releases at the Rum-X Community Tasting. The tasting was very entertaining, but the rums only contributed a small part. Overall, the rums were super similar, with the differences being in the nuances. Personally, I don't like the profile as much, as it simply lacks fruit. In the mouth, I find them better across the board than in the nose.The Mercenary rum is the sweetest of the round, with a grain note reminiscent of bourbon. The fruit on the nose is reminiscent of ripe banana, along with tobacco, tea and vanilla with lightly charred caramel. The mouth is intense and creamy with a nice sweetness. It's super smooth, but unfortunately not particularly complex.

Out of a small cross tasting: Rum Mercenary is the most lifely with some floral notes while the other three have a more similar profile. Rum Cask is very well balanced an approchable. RumClub feels the most intense with some funky notes. The Duchess is the most elegant out of the bunch and my personal winner.

Vergleich von drei Mount Gay 2000 gestern Abend mit zwei Freunden : The rum mercenary: Eine sehr leckere Nase, auf Marzipan und einigen gelben Früchten. Super angenehm. Der Mund ist auf der Linie der Nase ohne Überraschungen. Letztendlich ist er gut, aber es fehlt ihm ein wenig an Komplexität. The rum cask: Kein Zweifel, es ist wirklich derselbe Rum, wenn auch nicht viel anders. Hier macht sich das Holz in der Nase, aber auch im Mund mehr Platz und führt zu einem etwas bitteren Abgang. Das macht die Nase bei diesem Rum freundlicher. The duchess: Man merkt wieder einmal, dass es sich um denselben Rum handelt, aber das Profil ist holziger. Außer, dass es überraschenderweise besser integriert ist als beim Rum Cask, ausgeglichener und leckerer. Alles in allem der beste der drei für uns gestern Abend.

In der Nase der floralste der drei von mir verkosteten 2000er Mount Gays, hat schon leichte Anklänge von Agricole. Im Mund im Vergleich zu den anderen angenehm ausbalanciert, hier überlagern die holzig-würzigen Noten nicht den Rest. Im Abgang eine schöne Note von süßem Espresso. Insgesamt sind die 2000er Mount Gays nichts so meins, der hier gefällt mir aber definitiv am besten von den drei probierten.

Finde hier die Nase erstmal sehr angenehm. Leider vergeht das mit dem ersten Schluck und anstelle der floralen treten nun überwiegend röstige etwas zu bitter geratene Eindrücke. Die ich zwar durchaus mag die aber dann doch etwas einseitig wirken.

Basically not wrong. Vanilla and coconut, light roasted aromas and bright fruits.

An der Nase für mich ein klassischer MG. Frucht, Vanille und etwas zartes florales, ein wenig Röstaromen sind auch vorhanden! Am Gaumen eine sehr dominante röstige verbrannte bittere Note, die fast alles überdeckt! Nach einiger Zeit gesellt sich etwas Espresso und Schwarztee hinzu! Der Abgang bleibt röstig verbrannt! Das ist mir für einen guten Rum einfach zu wenig!
