Zu Clarendon
Sehr ähnlich zu dem Rum Shark 2007, der angeblich von Appleton ist. Auch hier Lack, Möbelpolitur, Holz. Richtig intensiv.
The skittle has been open for a while, but this is a very fine selection. Nice length with ripe fruit and well-integrated alcohol. I'm at TDL, so the bottle is old, but it's worth buying.
The rum is pale gold in color, due to its young age (9 years). On the nose, everything is perfectly blended, making it rather difficult to describe. But it's mainly buttery, with vegetal-floral-herbaceous notes and a few traces of vanilla in the background. On the palate, the alcohol is warm and omnipresent. A second swig is needed to tame the beast. It's a far cry from Jamaican standards, with a Port-Mourant-like wet woodiness, a sour mouthfeel and a minerality. This is clearly not a rum for pleasure. It's a pure, hard-drinking rum.
It's less exuberant than other clarendons I've tasted, but also more complex. The taste evolves for a while, with notes of fruit, leather, nuts and a very pleasant vegetal side. Very well-integrated alcohol at 67%.
