Bought the bottle in an impuls because the price was right for a 13 year old single cask rum. It’s very nice and quite an easy sipper for almost 55%. Sweet and not too complex, in a good way. Glad with this addition to the rum cabinet. It reminds me of a Bielle.
Nosing reveals a profile unfortunately not much different from any storebought column still: overly light and flat. This makes it difficult to pick up anything other than some minor wafts that penetrate through the dominant rock sprawled river and cucumber water notes. The taste is slightly more complex, but ultimately still too light and one-dimensional. Green grapes and litchi quickly subdued by barrel notes, followed by fresh, minty cucumber water. Ends in seawind, heavily salted and dry. This is what I imagine a bottle of 5-star at cask strength would smell and taste like.
Not a lot of complexity with this one. The nose is a bit floral, but I mainly get money and chocolate. There is even less complexity on the taste. I get salted caramel, honey and milk chocolate. The finish is very short.
