Depaz Hors d’Âge Port Cask Finish

9,2:On the nose, one immediately gets the sensation of a very round rum, where the nuts and spices are heady and caught in a mellow thickness. The dried fruits are quite sweet, as in the mixtures that one nibbles on as an aperitif (dried pineapple and papaya). The rum suddenly bursts and delivers a large raspberry bubble in sorbet. The cane splashes when this bubble bursts, and the rather dry wood is no match for the very exotic fruit that then rolls in. The aeration confirms and reinforces the impression of roundness, and even of sugar, with in addition very mellow and muffled vanilla aromas. Banana and chocolate surf on this very greedy side, the cane is mixed with caramel. 9:The entry in the mouth is very sweet, as the nose promised, with notes of coconut and caramel. The toasted wood comes in and tightens it up a bit, the previous notes then change into a kind of soy sauce. The mid-palate is very agricultural, the peppery cane accompanied by lime zest brings a naturalness and a bitterness necessary to the balance of the rum. 9:The finish is surprising because it is marked by rather powerful notes of fermentation, almost on the vegetable, but also by slightly metallic and rather sulphurous flavours. The length on the palate comes from the spices and especially the cinnamon.

Pleasant surprise. Not a big fan of Depaz, but this one is very good, at a very reasonable price.

Schöner Rum, bei dem man viel für sein Geld bekommt, mit Aromen von Trockenfrüchten und Karamell vom Anfang bis zum Ende.

One of the few Agricoles that I think are not quite so dry and spicy, but more on the fruity side. Probably comes through the port finish a certain sweetness to it, also is very much fruit and wine present. In addition, the typical earthy and leathery notes, but also cocoa and roasted flavors. With this, I find it complex and one of the best Agricoles I've had.

Very delicious Depaz with a nice impact of the port barrel. The alcohol is integrated very well.

Insgesamt ein sehr guter Port Cask Finished Agricole, den ich auf dem Sweden (Stockholm) Rumfest 2024 verkostet habe. Er wurde zunächst mindestens 8 Jahre gelagert und danach 11 Monate in ehemaligen Portweinfässern veredelt. In der Nase sind Eiche, Vanille, Schokolade und reife Früchte zu erkennen. Im Mund und am Gaumen sind Aromen von Eiche, Vanille und Schokolade zusammen mit Noten von Portwein, Haselnuss, Trockenfrüchten und Kakao zu erkennen. Im recht langen Abgang finden sich neben den oben genannten auch Noten von Jasmin, Kaffee und Pflaume.

Sweet rhum, but even if the rhum from HSE with Port Cask Finish (RX7545) is much younger and cheaper, I like it a little better than this Depaz, because the HSE very appropriate port note is more dominant. Nevertheless, I can also recommend the Depaz just Agricole beginners with a clear conscience, he makes the entry gently.

Ein schöner Depaz, das Port Cask kommt auf jeden Fall durch in Nase und Gaumen, hat eine leichte Weinnote. Außerdem noch getrocknete Früchte und Hilz in der Nase. Am Gaumen dann ebenfalls noch getrocknete Früchte und etwas Schokolade. Weiß zu gefallen.

Ein zugänglicher und relativ süßer Depaz. In der Nase dominieren Apfel, Kirsche und ein Hauch von Mandeln. Im Mund ist er würziger und anishaltiger, aber man spürt immer noch das Holz. Eine Version, bei der ich den Einfluss des Portweinfinishs sofort erkennbar fand, sowohl im Mund als auch in der Nase, und schließlich ziemlich ausgeprägt, aber angenehm. Einige kaum wahrnehmbare erdige Eindrücke im Abgang, die ein wenig zusätzliche Komplexität bringen. Ein netter Rum, aber letztlich ziemlich klassisch für dieses Finish. Ich bevorzuge andere Versionen in ähnlichen Preislagen aus demselben Haus.

Ein Depaz mit einem Finish im Portweinfass, das den Rum über die gesamte Länge der Verkostung prägen wird. Während die Nase mit ihren leicht blumigen Noten, Trockenfrüchten und Karamell recht vielfältig ist, wird der Geschmack vor allem von Rosinen und Pflaumen dominiert, die durch das Finish im Portweinfass hinzukommen. Dahinter verbergen sich vanilleartige Holznoten und etwas Zimt. Der Abgang ist im Vergleich zum Rest leider etwas kurz. Ein Rum mit einem für seine Destillerie typischen Profil, der jedoch leicht hinter den Standards von Depaz zurückbleibt.
