Elixir Distillers of London Caroni The Whisky Trail Single Traditional Column (Paradise for Shinanoya) 1997

Die Nase weist eher Richtung Guyana, zudem alkoholisch. Geschmacklich dominieren zunächst Kräuter, die sich schnell mit einer deutlichen Karamellnote (wohl aus dem Fass) verbinden. Die geliebten Teernoten kommen dann leider erst im Abgang auf, wo sie dezent, aber lang verweilen. Aus meiner Sicht hätte der Rum früher abgefüllt werden sollen.

Noten vom Fass mit etwas süßer Vanille und viel Holz in der Nase. Es gibt etwas Caroni-Schmutz, aber auch eine Note von verfaultem Gemüse, die ziemlich einzigartig ist. Am Gaumen kann er nicht ganz mit der Spitze des 97er Jahrgangs mithalten. Viel Holz, Vanille und Gewürze dominieren. Das sind zwar gute Zutaten, aber das Profil wirkt etwas zu alkoholisch und es fehlt an Komplexität für eine höhere Bewertung. Insgesamt immer noch angenehm, nur nicht ganz erstklassig.

On to the second Caroni of the day. On the nose: It has some familiar notes like tar, but quite woody and alcoholic. Spices. Vanilla. Taste: Quite tar and alcoholic upfront. Then the rum opens up to a creamy mouthfeel with darker flavours like cocoa, coffee notes. Finish: Quite dry finish. Woody, roasted and leather notes. From my experience this rum doesn't offer the typical notes associated with Caroni rums. It should be more complex,more balanced and finish could be better to receive better score, but i liked it and its not a bad rum at all
