The "R13.5 Captivating, Robust and Nimble (Bar 1802)" was produced in Trinidad at the Caroni distillery. It was selected and bottled by the independent bottler The Scotch Malt Whisky Society. It was distilled in 1998 from Molasses and then aged for 24 years. The rum is bottled at cask strength and has an ABV of 61,7%. This is a limited release and there are only 230 bottles. 11 community members rated this rum with an average of 8.9/10. The rum smells like Smoky, Woody and Dried fruit, and on the palate there is Dried fruit, Smoky and Peat.

Where to start? First, the bottle is incredible in its detail. Then smoke and peat (or hydrocarbons?) take over. The fruit is clearly present, even if in hindsight it doesn't go through all the states, and we end up with a smell that's impossible to get out of my head. Last glass at 1802, because after that nothing can stand up to me!
So I was really looking forward to this bottle, because I had to go directly to the ExcellenceRhum in Paris to get it, and experience tells me that what you choose forbar 1802 is worth it. To smell and taste. After the initial sniff, it's clear to me that it's going to be about smokiness and peat. Dried fruit, leather and mint come out. On the palate, the peatiness is there, tannins, dried fruits, leather, mint, a bit of kerosene. It's a heavier rum, which has to be the right time, but then it puts a smile on your face.
Die Nase zeigt erkennbare Caroni-Düfte, rauchig mit etwas Teer und lustigerweise ist er leicht getorft. Außerdem gibt es Früchte, dunkle Schokolade und Espresso-Töne. Wenn sich das Glas allmählich leert, spüre ich Noten von Apfel und Wachs. Das ist eine sehr gute Nase! Am Gaumen zeigen sich viele Aromen, die bereits in der Nase zu finden sind. Er ist trocken mit Jod, Minze und Leder. Der Abgang ist lang und ziemlich weich, immer noch rauchig und getorft, mit Früchten, dunkler Schokolade und Jod. Ein sehr guter Caroni!
