Caroni S.B.S Trinidad „The Beast“ 1993

On the nose, rubber, red fruit, menthol, leather, shoe polish and even some caramel. On the palate, a strange, penetrating, soapy rosewater note overpowers everything else. A bit of a shame, because I otherwise really appreciate the charred-meaty notes like the Velier Guyana Stock.

Sehr interessanter einzigartiger Rum! Er hat einen dominanten Geruch von Rubber/Tar mit einigen Noten von Lakritze und Minze. Sehr cooles intensives Mundgefühl von Gummi/Teer und noch viel mehr. Er hat einen sehr langen Abgang, ein Mundgefühl wie ein Lastwagen voller Teer und Minze, der in deinem Mund entladen wird 🤪PN: du wirst ihn lieben, wenn du diese Geschmäcker magst, ansonsten wirst du ihn hassen!Update: Mein Lieblings-"Caroni"! 😎 intensiv, sehr intensiv, DAS BESTE

The Beast is already very bitter. But there is also menthol, mint, a very delicate fruity note and a violet/soap note. The soapy finish is particularly disturbing. It simply lacks balance, but it's still an interesting bottling.

Tbh I do not know what to look for when tasting a rhum. I do not feel/taste all the flavours and I cannot identify those which I do. But I do know this was one of the best ones I tasted so far. And what got me into it was it's unique taste that resembled smooky whisky, and not that you'd usually expect from a rhum. Anyways, bought 2 bottles, so I guess it is time to open the second one and enjoy what may be the last of it in this world 🙌

Only in the finish discreet citrus, otherwise completely on the bitter-spicy side with lots of rubber. Almost like liquid grilled cheese. Especially in the mouth black tea and pleasant herbs. Some menthol as in toothpaste, but the kind you want to eat. Especially in the finish still some cigar. A very interesting Caroni that will only taste people who like it rather bitter.

Es gibt einen Grund, warum sie diesen Rum "The Beast" genannt haben. Ein echter Caroni, von der Nase bis zum trockenen Abgang, ein Einzelfass, aus dem nur 239 Flaschen stammen, und das Fass hinterlässt einen schönen Abdruck auf diesem Rum, von der Farbe, die fast schwarz ist, bis zum Geschmack und Abgang. Ein hochpreisiger Rum, aber er ist es wert.

Intensive Caroni/Benzin-Noten in der Nase, begleitet von Minze und einigen roten Früchten; schmutzig, rauchig, bitter und intensiv bis zum Ende; ein außergewöhnlicher Rum, der seinem Namen alle Ehre macht. Nicht als täglicher Schluck zu empfehlen - ein wahres Biest ;)

Actually without rating ... Where I like the nose actually still quite good, but then: for me almost undrinkable! Perhaps comparable with extremely bitter, herbaceous toothpaste with lots of mint / menthol, an experience of a special kind😄.

Far too bitter and soapy

Very special, the nose is still comparatively restrained after some time, but then the rubber and bitter notes hit the tongue properly. Those who like Caroni should try it - but for most it will probably be no more than an interesting excursion.

Intensiv und bissig. Pur höchstens interessant aber eigentlich nicht genießbar. Könnte ich mir als Zutat für blends aber gut vorstellen. Die intensive Minznote macht Spaß.

Es schmeckt wie Waschmittel. Edit- Ich glaube nicht, dass der Geschmack so schrecklich ist. Also habe ich eine weitere Probe gekauft. OMFG - es ist noch schlimmer als mein erstes Gefühl!

Das ist kein Caroni, wie wir ihn kennen! Nachdem er ein Vierteljahrhundert im Fass verbracht hat, hat er einen sehr sauren Geschmack und Schärfe. Das Holz dominiert in diesem Fall und einige der typischen öligen, teerartigen "schmutzigen" Noten sind hinter dem Geschmack von poliertem Holz zusammen mit Zitrusfrüchten, Minze und verbranntem Zucker verschwunden.
