This rum will always hold a soft spot for me because a trip to Three Dots and a Dash was the catalyst for me to find out that rum held so much more for me than the premium, easy drinking 40% ABV sippers of the world. In just one night I was converted and this rum really helped - and therein lies it’s beauty. This is similar on nose and palate - some wood, lots of brown sugar, vanilla and caramel. On the palate there’s more butterscotch, vanilla, sweet fruitiness and barrel spice. The 57% alcohol is a little noticeable but not overpowering. There may be some mild dosing. All told, this one lacks complexity that would elevate it - it’s a bit simple and one-noted. So what’s the beauty exactly? This is a fantastic ‘beginner’ rum for those venturing into the world of higher ABV and little/low dosing. This could be just a little challenging for someone that has never tried this world before but offers flavours that are comfortable and approachable. When I tried this, by the end of the night I was trying and loving Caroni - something I may not have done if this hadn’t given me the courage to keep trying. There’s a real value in that.
