Don Papa Sherry Cask

Überraschend fruchtige und würzige Nase. Am Gaumen kommt der geniale Sherry-Einfluss hervorragend zur Geltung. Ein relativ holziges Bouquet mit einer interessanten Würzigkeit (Zimt, Gewürznelke) und Intensität. Trocken und zugleich fruchtig. Der Abgang ist überdurchschnittlich lang und ledrig/würzig. Das Besondere an den ungesüßten Abfüllungen von Don Papa ist ihre unverwechselbare Aromatik, die man so nicht mit Rumsorten aus anderen Ländern vergleichen kann. Um die 90 Euro sind für diesen Rum durchaus akzeptabel und die geschmackliche Erfahrung lohnt sich ohnehin.

Une marque en particulier a popularisé le rhum des Philippines auprès des amateurs de rhum du monde entier : Don Papa. En voici un nouvel ambassadeur : le rhum Don Papa Sherry Cask ! Elaboré à partir de mélasse issue de cannes cultivées sur l’île de Négros, il est le fruit d’une expérimentation audacieuse de la marque. Cette cuvée a en effet bénéficié d’un traitement très particulier : après plusieurs années passées en fûts de chêne américain ayant contenu du Bourbon, le rhum a été placé dans des fûts ayant contenu quatre types différents de Xérès : Fino, Palo Cortado, Pedro Ximenez et Cream, pour une finition d'une durée de 18 mois. C'est de cet échange qu'il tire ses délicats arômes fruités dans lesquels on devine, au nez, le raisin, mûr et intense, et en bouche la prune et la figue. Un rhum traditionnel original qui saura vous surprendre et vous charmer, sans nul doute…

Fruity and spicy on the nose with notes of cherry, fig, plum and raisin. A small hint of tobacco and clove. Some acidity in the direction of green apple and tangy Riesling. All in all, mild and full-bodied. In the mouth, unmistakable sherry, cherry, raisin, fig and spicy oak. Also a fine acidity of white wine. Dry. The finish is rather short to medium with a hint of cocoa and some lemon zest. Great rum and not too oversweetened for my taste.

8,5:The nose is balanced, round, with molasses, strongly roasted nuts with smokiness, camphor and red fruits, ripe banana. Tangerine brings its bitterness and acidity, making for a rather lively finish. Over time, camphor and wax take on an increasingly medicinal quality. With time, the varnished wood and minty notes come to the fore. It is soft and warm, exhaling aromas of vanilla tobacco and nuts. 8,3:The palate is dry and astringent, as the sherry cask would suggest. Once again, camphor takes a large slice of the aroma cake. The profile is medicinal, resinous, bit spicy and a little roasted. The blend is quite concentrated, with intense vanilla, ripe exotic fruit and resin, followed by a hint of cereal. 8,3:The finish is quite long and juicy, with exotic fruit and cherry pie, confectionery like.I like this rum, no joke!🙂

Auch wieder ein relativ fruchtiger Rum. Das er ein Sherry Cask Finish hat, schmeckt man zu 100% raus. Hat eine Gute Note dieser Rum. Ich fand ihn ganz ansprechend, würde ihn auf jeden Fall empfehlen :)

Wer Whisky mag wird ihn mögem

Pleasant tasting in a Mamacita mexican restaurant in Athens centre right after arrival. Just a small shot for 9 euros as a starter. I expected a very cherry sweet blend, a little surprise and not bad after all.

Grosses notes de sherry, cerise, mûre. Profil gourmand et fruité. Encore une fois 0 gramme de sucre ajouté.

It is shame this don papa product. Sherry in noose is nice but tast absolutely artificial and full of alcohol

Nicht so süß wie seine Kollegen, angenehm als Aperitif. Der Sherry ist sehr präsent, was hilfreich sein kann.

So, der dritte Don Papa und dann reicht es aber auch! Klar, deutlich Sherry in der Nase. Leicht geschwefelte, künstliche Traube und Kirsche. Auch etwas würzig-rauchig holziges, Richtung Kirschholz mag ich zu vernehmen. Dann deutlich Karamell und gebrannter Zucker. Am Gaumen kommt erst mal der Sherry, mit etwas röstig-holzigem. Er kann aber die Herkunft (künstliches Orangen-Vanille Zuckerwasser) nicht verbergen. Etwas mehr Richtung Kirsche, aber hinten dünn und zu süß. Don Papa ist und bleibt für mich die Unterste Ebene. Schlechte Spirituose aber mit super Marketing.
