Corman Collins Uitvlugt Rum Demerara 1989

Ein Rum, von dem ich auf dem Papier viel erwartet hatte. Eine sehr dunkle Farbe. Die Nase konjugiert altes lackiertes Holz und Butter, Ananas, Mango und Leder. Der Mund ist sehr weich, holzig, leicht minzig, trotz des Alters des Tieres nicht schwerfällig. Der Abgang ist etwas kurz mit einem (zu) präsenten, aber eleganten Holz. Die Nase ist schön, komplex, aber der Mund und der Abgang lassen mich hungrig zurück

A very nice 1989 Uitvlugt perhaps starting to show its age, hints of oak and a bit drying. However all the typical notes of an old guyana rum! I'm getting licorice and old leather and some peppery notes, some fruits and caramel as well.

Alleine das Alter verspricht schon viel, und tatsächlich ist hier natürlich einiges an Aroma im Glas. Mich lässt aber der Eindruck nicht los, dass es sich um ein eher weniger mittelprächtiges Fass des Jahrgangs handelte, da trotz der Reduktion die Röstnote noch immer sehr klar erkennbar ist. Vermutlich hat die Reduktion auf unter 50% aber genau vor diesem Hintergrund stattgefunden, so bleibt ein relativ runder Rum, dem aber ein bisschen das Temperament, sprich die letzte aromatische Wucht fehlt.

A rum that I had wanted to try for a long time. The anticipation was correspondingly great. The disillusionment came pretty quickly. A solid rum, of course. But nothing more. The floral and fruity aromas fall short due to the large amount of wood and roasted aromas. Too bad.
