Albion S.B.S Guyana 2012

A new boring tasting session with young pot still single cask Guyanese rums. Kill Devil 12y, 61,1% Barikenn 8y, 63,3% The Nectar 10y, 62,5% SBS 10y, 64,6% C: W wine N: 5min in and this is pure coastal saltiness. Nasty rum and most likely not aged in the tropics. God, I love these young continental pot still Guyanese, I find then bold, pure distillate, no cask, minimal angel’s share. After a while I get lime and a blend of red apples and celery, petrol fumes and off course oysters. M: In your face natural blend of sweet lime and apple juice. Not complex but still it ends with floral notes and ester. How can a rum with such nasty and salty nose become so sweet? I love this! F: Gentle smoke and sweet B: Yes. Why boring? Every rum brings something slightly different, but I like them all.

Die PM ist nicht schlecht, aber auch nichts Außergewöhnliches

Tasted with The Nectar 2012 Albion, against which - for me - it has the edge. A little fatter, spicier and sweeter on the nose and in the mouth. Also slightly oilier. These are my first Albions. I think there's still room for improvement ... can stay in the barrel a little longer.

Die Nase erinnert an andere junge PMs mit Holz und einigen kontinentalen Früchten. Beginnt mit intensiven verbrannten Noten. Einige Kräuter mit Anis. Am Gaumen spüre ich eine gewisse Säure, die ich auf den hohen Alkoholgehalt zurückführe. Der Geschmack ist jedoch überraschend süß mit Toffee und Rosinen, die unerwartet auftauchen. Verstehen Sie mich nicht falsch, das ist ein sehr kraftvoller und anspruchsvoller Whisky, der natürlich weit von einer angenehmen Süße entfernt ist... Obwohl dies der erste AW ist, den ich im Glas getrunken habe, bin ich von seinem Profil fasziniert. Ich freue mich darauf, weitere Abfüllungen zu entdecken. Auf Anhieb fühlen sich der SBS und der Nectar ziemlich ähnlich an. Letzterer vielleicht etwas weniger süß mit mehr Schokolade als Toffee. Der Alkohol ist bei beiden Abfüllungen spürbar.

Nez plutôt doux et fruité (poire, raisin blanc) une fois l'alcool dissipé. Bouche animée par une belle vivacité et complété par un boisé et du caramel. Malheureusement, la finale est plutôt courte. L'alcool pourrait être mieux intégré, même si je ne trouve pas ça désagréable (côté chaud). Bouteille un peu cher mais qui peut présenter un intérêt à un prix plus réduit sur le marché secondaire.

Ich habe nicht so viel Erfahrung mit Demerara-Rum (außer der El Dorado-Reihe) und ich denke, nach einer (sehr) langen Öffnung ist der Rum großartig

A not uninteresting rum that reminds me strongly of the one young PM. Vorallem the pear / apple note and the slight acidity brings me this style in memory. Here, in my opinion, with a little more maturation would have been significantly more possible. The alcohol could also be more elegantly integrated. So it remains a young Guyana Rum with interesting moments, but remains below its potential.

Der Alkohol hätte besser in das Profil integriert werden können, denn er beißt auch im Ruhezustand. Wenn man ein wenig Wasser hinzufügt, öffnet sich das Profil ein wenig und es wird fruchtiger. Ich mag das rauchige Holz am Gaumen, gemischt mit Trockenfrüchten und etwas leichtem Karamell. Trocken am Gaumen und im Abgang.

Nez très cognac. Olive. Anis. Des fruits acides. En bouche, profil intéressant mais alcool très présent. Iodé. Boisé. Caramélisé. Végétal. Terreux. L'alcool reste trop présent.

Frisch, heiß, ziemlich schüchtern in der Nase. Alkohol ist ziemlich scharf, aber bringt die Frucht nach vorne.

Erinnert an verschiedene PMs, erreicht jedoch nicht die Qualität der hochwertigen Abfüllungen. Der Nectar 2010 hat für mich im direkten Vergleich die Nase vorn.

Schlecht integrierter Alkohol. Eine störende saure Seite im Mund

Alkohol leider schlecht eingebunden. Auch nach längerer Zeit immer noch spürbar. Leider auch zu viel Säure neben den Apfel- und Birnennote.

Today I tasted the two Albions from S.B.S and the Nectar against each other! Both are almost identical on the nose...but on the palate there are differences! The Nectar is creamier, softer and rounder, although the alcohol is not as well integrated as in the SBS. The mixture of fruit. I find the blend of fruit, spice and vegetal notes much more pleasing here, and it also convinces me with its better intensity on the finish. The clear winner for me!

Kommt recht frisch daher, weiss aber sowohl in der Nase als auch am Gaumen zu gefallen. Trotz der höheren Alkoholstärke im Vergleich zur Sample X Albion-Abfüllung schlägt selbiger weniger exzessiv durch; keine Frage, die über 60% sind erkennbar, nehmen aber den tropischen Fruchtnoten, den Gewürzen und den leichten Karamellanklängen zu keinem Zeitpunkt den Platz, um selbst in Erscheinung zu treten. Solide Abfüllung, aber nicht ansatzweise vergleichbar mit den tropischen gelagerten Albions.
