Der von der Balcones Distillery hergestellte Texas Rum ist eine amerikanische Spirituose, die in Fassstärke aus Melasse in einer Brennblase destilliert wird. Mit einem hohen Alkoholgehalt von 58,5% hat dieser Rum ein komplexes Aromaprofil mit nussigen, holzigen und tabakigen Noten. Der Geschmack ist geprägt von Karamell-, Honig- und Röstaromen und bietet ein reichhaltiges, vollmundiges Erlebnis. Trotz seines jungen Alters von zwei Jahren zeigt er seine Reife mit Noten von Eiche, Vanille und subtiler Fruchtigkeit. Die Nutzerinnen und Nutzer stellen fest, dass er eine ausgeprägte Balcones-Identität hat und sowohl Faszination als auch Wärme bietet, obwohl einige einen leicht trockenen oder adstringierenden Nachgeschmack bemängeln.

Despite just 24 months in the barrel, the barrel has worked extremely due to the extreme tenperature differences in Texas. Exciting rum.
Here Batch 21-1 at 58.5%, the second of my two souvenir bottles from San Francisco. Nose: of course almost identical to Batch 20-1.Powerful and complex with wood, vinegar, caramel, tropical fruit, molasses and a nice leather-tobacco-smoke blend. Very pleasant on the nose, encourages tasting.A bit finer on the palate than Batch 20-1. more licorice, more cassis, but also a bit shorter in appearance. Still strong oak and nicely toasty. A real positive surprise for me. Only 2 years aging, but under the blazing Texas sun. Alcohol very well integrated in both. Lots of flavors on the nose and palate. The must have tried in any case!
Alcohol unfortunately not quite as well integrated. Overall, significantly less fruit notes and generally complexity compared to the new batch with 51.9% and for me personally too dry, a bit too bitter and too astringent. Has somehow something straw-like in the finish...
After batch 20-1 (for the review see RX3293)now 21-1:Very similar to the brother with 62%, if the nose here also seems a bit rounder. Perhaps because of the lower ABV, but also because another note joins, which is rather musty-musty to me and reminds me of damp wood.On the palate similar: Again a bit more moderate, more well-behaved, than the younger with more power and at the same time even more the impression of drinking an older Spaniard. Unlike many of these bottlings but not boring, but quite tasty and yet somehow different!Overall, perhaps a bit more boring than the bottling with 62%, but equally worth trying! Young and yet with character and again something new from a rumtechnisch rather unknown country. I like that!
