Alle Barbados Rums anzeigenBarbados is a 167 square-mile island in the Lesser Antilles and it’s the most easterly in the Caribbean. Spanish conquerors took hold of the island in the 15th century, and it was under Portuguese rule for a while as well. The island was abandoned in 1620 but reclaimed by the British in 1625; they controlled the Caribbean island for the next three hundred years. The sugarcane arrived on Barbados in 1640, and the island became a sugar and rum powerhouse fuelled by the slave trade, mainly by plantations worked by enslaved Africans. Barbados is the “birthplace of Caribbean rum”, and the style is inherently British. Four major distilleries call Barbados home: Foursquare, Mount Gay, St. Nicholas Abbey and West Indies Rum Distillery. The rum style is darker and fuller compared to other Caribbean rums, thanks to higher molasses concentration and the use of pot stills. The rum usually ages in ex-Bourbon barrels for long periods, making the style particularly appealing for whiskey drinkers. Although column stills are now also used by the island’s rum producers, pot stills are still relevant, differentiating this rum style from others. For reference, Barbados rum is more similar to what you’d find in Jamaica than the rum produced in Spanish- and French-style producing countries — it has no added sugar. Barbadian rum producers are pushing for their own Geographical Indication, standardising and improving the rum quality and international exposure. Still, producers have yet to agree on what Barbados rum should be and how it should be produced and aged. The future is bright, though, for Barbados rum.

Die Nase ist sehr umfassend und komplex mit einer Vielzahl von Aromen: exotische Früchte, florale Noten, Kräuter, Tabak, Gewürze (Ingwer, Lakritz, Anis, Chili, Vanille, Pfeffer), rauchiges Holz, Nüsse, Karamell, Honig, Schokolade und medizinische Noten bilden ein ebenso besonderes wie detailliertes aromatisches Bouquet, das tief und lebendig ist. Der Auftakt am Gaumen ist sehr elegant und anspruchsvoll. Man findet einen lebhaften Rum, reich an Gewürzen, Kräutern und floralen Noten, die bis hin zu Honig reichen. Holz, Rauch, Leder und Schokolade folgen der komplexen und frischen Struktur des Gaumens. Einige medizinische und fruchtige Noten warten im Hinterhalt auf der Zunge. "Man erkennt direkt die Foursquare-DNA. Im Vergleich zu anderen Abfüllungen erwartet einen aber eine unheimliche Komplexität und Tiefe, die an tropisch gelagerte Demerara Abfüllungen erinnert. Am Gaumen rund, nussig-würzig, intensiv, vielschichtig mit einer tollen Süße. Ähnlich wie der 2006 nur noch einen Tick komplexer. Bester Foursquare bis jetzt. Ein echtes Feuerwerk im Mund - Love it!"

"Erster Eindruck: Oh yes!!! Nach dem Reinfall mit dem Raconteur der mir persönlich nicht ganz so gut gefallen hat, nur der Absolutio. Die Kombination aus Bourbon und Portfass funktioniert meines Erachtens super. Alkohol Topp integriert. Schön weich und samtig zu trinken, schöne dunkle Farbe und hübsche Vorhänge im Glas. Für 179€ auch mal wieder preislich billiger als der Vorgänger. Vom Gedächtnis was aus dem Velier Foursquare Crosstasting hängen geblieben ist, hebt er sich von den anderen ab und würde bei mir ganz vorne mit abschneiden. Glaube das wird mein neuer Lieblings Foursquare."

Mega exciting, extremely palatable and a complexity like this is very rare with Foursquare. Absolutely outstanding for me! It has become one of my favorite sipping rums. I think this could really be my absolute favorite Foursquare!"

Die Abfüllungen von Belier weisen über die gesamte Palette hinweg eine sehr hohe Qualität auf. Triptych und Pleni lagen für mich an der Spitze, dicht gefolgt von Destino. Ich war etwas überrascht, dass Sassafras und 2006 eher zu den Schlusslichtern zählten, obwohl mir beide für sich genommen sehr gut gefallen haben. Raconteur liegt ebenfalls ziemlich weit unten in der Rangliste, und Principia ist eindeutig das Schlusslicht."

"Blindverkostung heute Abend. Die Nase ist genial. Ein großer exotischer Fruchtsalat im Vordergrund. Ein bisschen Mandelpulver dahinter, ein paar Trockenfrüchte, ein Hauch von Gummi. Eine Nase, die Lust auf mehr macht, wirklich! Ich mag es sehr. Im Mund macht sich das Holz stärker bemerkbar und einige Aromen wie kandierte Pflaumen. Er ist etwas weniger fruchtig. Ich habe an einen Navy-Blend mit jamaikanischer Dominanz gedacht."

"This is a lovely bottling and I got the nose as soon as I opened the sample. The fruit is there especially coconut that I love in the rums from Barbados followed by the wood and spices in near perfect harmony. The empty glass will release the most wonderful flavours after and hour or so and even the day after you still get some of the flavours. Price to quality is OK."

Der Rum ist gut ausbalanciert, man wird direkt von einer enormen Patisserie-Note angesprochen (Crème brûlée / Butterkaramell / Kuchen / Vanille / Schokolade / brauner Zucker), er ist sehr fettig (Kokosnuss / Walnuss / Butter), man hat einige süße rote Früchte, die zusammen mit ihren Freunden, den Trockenfrüchten (getrocknete Aprikosen / Pflaumen), durch den Mund wandern.Das Holz ist ebenfalls fein und köstlich und strukturiert den Mund mit einem Hauch von Leder und einer leicht getoasteten Seite (geröstete Kokosnuss)."

"Riecht echt intensiv und lecker nach Frucht, Karamell, Vanille und Gewürzen, allerdings schon etwas nach Lösungsmittel, was aber nach einer gewissen Zeit verfliegt. Super rund. Pur ist dieser Rum schwer und kräftig, mit etwas Wasser absolut mild. Geht runter wie Öl. Leider bekomme ich hier nicht so viel Schokolade, dafür viel Karamell/Sahnetoffee, Frucht und Gewürze. Der Bourboneinfluss ist vorhanden. Sehr runder, leckerer und komplexer Rum, da kann man nicht viel meckern :-)"

"Anfang etwas Alkoholische Nase... Sherry kommt gut durch macht ihn Fruchtiger und etwas süßer im Vergleich ... Nach etwas zeit im Glas verliert sich die Schärfe etwas und er wirkt Harmonischer ... Das Sherry Fass hat gute Arbeit geleistet und bringt mMn den Typischen Foursquare Charakter etwas nach vorne und macht ihn anders (was in anbetracht der unzähligen Abfüllungen sehr zu begrüßen ist) Preise jenseits der 100€ sehen ich als übertrieben."

"#4594 29.01.2024 Relaxing at home with this nice sample I received today. A rather intensive rum wich settles a bit with a few drops of water. This is a pretty different profile with a lot of punch. I like it a lot but I think this one will split the waters a bit. Rest for a long time or add a few drops of water. The tannins are close to taking the first row here ☺️ Nose Intense, balanced, wood, light roasted, berries, faint mint, light caramel, light sherry notes. Palate Lightly oily, balanced, complex, wood, medium roasted, tannins, fruity, light mint, faint caramel. Finish Warm, wood, light roasted, tannins, dried fruit. The empty glass has some light chocolate and light camphor notes. Will see if I can get my hands on a bottle."

A fruity and naturally sweet rum with nice spices and wood. The ABV is really well integrated and it draws really nice curtains in the glass. The empty glass is also fruity with a little chocolate and citrus."
